  7. With the advent of BATTLE CHESS II(tm) last year, we launched
  8. what is perhaps the most intriguing style of chess play
  9. since this, the original BATTLE CHESS swept the computer
  10. gaming world in 1988.

  12. As our way of saying thanks, we are setting BATTLE CHESS loose
  13. upon the world as FREEware!  Yes, that's right - FREEWARE.
  14.  
  15. Because BATTLE CHESS was such a success, it appears that its
  16. successor, BATTLE CHESS II(tm) is following rapidly in its
  17. footsteps.  To celebrate that fact, you now have in your
  18. possession one of the most sought after experiences in software;
  19. a truly remarkable computer chess game that will challenge as well
  20. as entertain and ASTOUND you!

  22. This freeware version is unprotected, unlike the commercial
  23. version.  After installing the files in an appropriate directory,
  24. just type CHESS at the DOS-prompt.  When the introduction screen
  25. appears, press any key and you will be presented with three
  26. dialog boxes in sequence expecting some arcane chess knowledge.
  27. Since it would be unfair for us to believe that a normal person
  28. would actually have this trivia in their brain-boxes, we made
  29. matters simple; just press return at each prompt.
  30. It is highly recommended that you play using your mouse since
  31. it is much easier (not to mention faster) to select your moves
  32. by pointing and clicking.  All game options can be selected from
  33. the menu-bar across the top of the screen.  Also, unless you
  34. elect to play exclusively in the 2-dimensional mode it is further
  35. suggested that the game be installed upon your hard drive.  The
  36. extensive use of animation in 3-d mode necessitates frequent disk
  37. access.  Accessing that from a floppy drive impedes enjoyment of
  38. the game as well as being just plain slow and silly.

  77. claim these murderous rampages had nothing to do with power,
  78. gluttony, and greed but were incited by INTERPLAY PRODUCTIONS
  79. release of BATTLE CHESS II(tm).  We however, are of the opinion
  80. that it really had something to do with our provocative and
  81. competitive NFL PRO LEAGUE FOOTBALL game.
